Big, Bold, and Body Positive: Praising ESPN’s Body Issue Cover-boy Prince Fielder

ESPN’s 2014 The Body Issue won’t hit newsstands until July 11th, but leaked images of Texas Ranger’s first baseman Prince Fielder are surely making the rounds online, and for good reason! These images show a different side to the usual “Fitness Model Magazine Cover-boy,” and the result is not only inspiring, but it’s a step in the right direction to create a more body-positive conscious mindset.

In the issue, Fielder says:

You don’t have to look like an Under Armour mannequin to be an athlete. A lot of people probably think I’m not athletic or don’t even try to work out or whatever, but I do. Just because you’re big doesn’t mean you can’t be an athlete. And just because you work out doesn’t mean you’re going to have a 12-pack. I work out to make sure I can do my job to the best of my ability. Other than that, I’m not going up there trying to be a fitness model.

Bravo, ESPN, for showing some much-needed body diversity!

Why do you think about Prince Fielder’s photos for ESPN’s Body Issue?
